What is Body Sugar Waxing?
So, what exactly is body sugaring and what makes it so much more efficient and more skin friendly than the strip or hard waxing methods.
Sugaring waxing is not just a fancy new word or hair removal method for waxing.
Sugaring is one of the most ancient forms of hair removal. Dating back to early Egypt, this method has made its way into the modern world of hair removal and is becoming quite popular among beauty experts and those that love chemical free products.
Sugaring is a soft honey looking paste that consist only of 100% natural ingredients. All though it’s a wax-like consistency, but without the sticky resins, chemicals, preservatives and dyes that conventional “strip” or “hard” wax contains. The mixture is slightly warmed to room temperature or wax pot on low consistency and applied against the direction of the hair growth and then removed with the natural direction of the hair growth using a hand technique to flick the paste off. This allows hair to be extracted in the natural hair growth direction, so less hair breakage than normal waxing methods and less ingrown to deal with, just more smooth soft silky skin. Sugaring is known to be effective at removing the hair by the root, leading to permanent hair reduction if you’re consistent with it. It is also great for sensitive, hypersensitive, strawberry legs, thin skin due to Roaccutane or anyone who has dealt with razor bumps, itchiness, or other adverse reactions to shaving or waxing. Sugaring is amazing for keeping the natural PH skin levels balanced like people who suffer from problematic skin like Eczema, Psoriasis or Shingles. Sugaring not only removes your hair but it exfoliates you at the same time removing all your unwanted dead skin cells. Now that is a bonus!

Sugaring vs Waxing

Information
HOW LONG MUST YOUR HAIR GROWTH BE TO SUGAR?
For best results 1cm in length. Your hair growth length can be 1cm or longer.
SHOULD I TRIM BEFORE MY SUGARING APPOINTMENT?
Preferably not. We have found that if hair is trimmed too short, it can lead to a painful stingy sensation and can lead to short prickly hair being left behind and not the result of smooth silky soft skin as desired. Consult first with your therapist/practitioner.
HOW LONG MUST I WAIT AFTER SHAVING OR USING DEPILATORY HAIR REMOVAL PRODUCTS?
Give your hair growth cycle two weeks before attempting sugaring due to the different hair growth cycles. For best results first time around, wait four weeks before booking a sugaring appointment. You can move from general waxing to sugar waxing without a waiting period.
HOW DO I PREPARE FOR MY SUGARING APPOINTMENT?
Follow the steps below:
Do not exfoliate the day before, on the day and the day after your sugaring appointment. (That includes loofah sponges & body scrubs.)
Do not apply any body lotion to the area being treated, the day before and on the day of your sugaring appointment as sugaring feeds dry dead skin cells and exfoliates the skin at the same time.
Do not plan any outside activities on the day of your sugaring appointment.
HomeCare is to be normal and still enjoy your daily routine. Do not consume sunlight or use products that contain AHA or ALCOHOL ☺ as the follicle is still exposed to the sun and can lead to UV damage such as pigmentation if not avoided for 24 hours.
Just a reminder that……
(ONCE YOU GO SUGAR …… YOU’LL NEVER GO WAX.)
DOES SUGARING HURT THE FIRST TIME?
It depends from person to person, it can hurt the first time it you have never been exposed to it or have never waxed before. Everyone’s pain threshold is different. It is also a different sensation for the skin to get used to. Sugaring removes more hair than old waxing methods. Less breakage to no breakage at all and can lead over time to permanency. So, if you have waxed for a long period of time, you will find that sugaring is way less painful, faster and leaves your skin silky smooth for longer.
HOW LONG DOES BODY SUGAR LAST FOR?
Body sugaring can last between 3-4 weeks before hair is even seen. Clients that have been sugaring for years can last up to 5-6 weeks as hair growth slows down and leads to permanency over time due to the hair being removed in its natural direction of hair growth, avoiding hair breakage and less ingrown.
DOES SUGARING REMOVE ALL HAIR IN THE FIRST SESSION?
It completely depends on your history and what hair removal method you have been using. Through that knowledge, your therapist can determine what needs to be done and then work out a plan that will help assist you to smoother longer lasting and healthier looking skin. (Make sure to book a consultation with your preferred trained sugaring therapist/ practitioner before just popping in unannounced). Asked for a small area to be patch tested so that you can experience this amazing product.
CAN SUGARING REMOVE ALL TYPES OF HAIR ?
Sugaring can be used on Vellus Hair (very soft downy type hair), which is hardly visible because it is normally non-pigmented and is found on most areas of the body like arms, legs, stomach, and face.
Can be used on Terminal Hair that is deeper rooted and coarse hair like the pubic area, beards, and underarms.
WHAT BODY PARTS CAN BE SUGARED?
All areas containing unwanted hair can be removed. We don’t always recommend scalp or extremely coarse beards as it can be very painful experience. But has been in some cases attempted successfully.
CAN SUGARING CAUSE INGOWN HAIRS?
Yes, it can happen if skin is not maintained. Sugaring can lead to ingrown hairs if skin is not regularly exfoliated to help remove old dead skin cells to allow hair to break thru the skin. Because the hair leads to permanency, the hair over time because very thin and fragile and will need help not to get stuck under the skin surface by exfoliating the area until the hair follicle has completely its cycle and has died off.
DOES SUGARING GIVE BUMPS?
Yes, hypersensitive skin or prone to strawberry legs will show tiny red spots for a few hours, but usually over time the skin settles and is normal within the hour, because its that natural.
WHAT ARE THE DISADVANTAGES OF SUGARING?
- Can be slightly painful if hair is too long. Can lead to a bit of pulling. But nothing that can not be survived compared to old waxing methods that can burn you and leave your skin sensitive and exposed for a longer period.
- You can feel with sugaring more hair being extracted, especially those finer hairs. But over time, your hair just becomes less and less.
